Default Maserati 4200 and Ferrari 360. same engine?

now i know ferrari supplies maserati with engines, and i know the 4200 has a 4.2 litre v8. now is this the same unit from the 360, bored out and such to increase capacity...(and as they say torque hopefully ) and since the worst kept secret at ferrari is the 420(the 360 replacement) do u guys think this will be the basis for their new engine?

Interesting...last months CAR has an article about Ferrari Maserati vs. VW and Audi. as you might well know VW bought 34% of the Italian duo because Fiat is in trouble (nothing new) and apparently, Audi will be sharring Quatro, DSG, chassis, and engine info with Ferrari. Rumors have it, there might be a little Audi in the new 420. Who knows?

The 430 Modena will have an engine derived from the 4.2 liter in the Maserati.
It will have 4.3 liters and will hopefully produce 480hp. Some of the changes to the Maserati engine will include a flat crank, lighter internals and a revised air inlet manifold—all aimed at allowing it to rev close to 9000 rpm.

I can't wait to see and hear this thing.

if that happens, i'll cry

i'm starting to hate VW/Audi more each day, ruining the heritage of Italian sports cars by making them more refined. i know the Germans and Italians were together in a couple wars, but with cars I wish they'd be separate.
i'm especially hoping that Ferrari wouldn't let any 4WD systems into their cars.

maybe VW owning a little of Ferrari won't be bad, though, as long as they don't let the Germans actually influence the cars (*cough*lambo*cough*) and make them a bit less special. not that i don't love the Murcielago and Gallardo, its just that i'd prefer Ferrari to not go down that path...

"Fiat's stake in Ferrari dipped to 64% with the 2002 fundraising sale of 34% of the Prancing Horse [to VW]. But FIat vows to take up an option to buy back this stake in 2004, rather than give it all up to VW..."-page 21, CAR; February 2004.

The technology sharring has begun...the article is interesting.

The day there is a front wheel drive Ferrari, I'm taking out one Ferrari's head honchos dog!

There was an all wheel drive Ferrari built, it was the 408GT I believe, but it never went into production. IIRC, they only built two of them.

I hope they don't do it again, keep the rear wheel drive for gods sake! Ferrari is in an exclusive market, no need to jump on the AWD bandwagon.

Vw getting all this huge names in automotive industry is amazing
Yet, they aren't doing so well. Didn't they just have to lay off some 3,000 people?

i doubt it will have this much, as it would be too close to the 575M Maranello's output. Ferrari will play it safe with 440-460bhp.

Hey, it would be nice if they did put 480bhp out
