Well, what if the max size for every email, attachments included is 50 kb?

not much abuse possible in that case

Its true. Unless of course they have been planning this for years. Do a whois lookup on gmail.com and you will see its owned by google and was registered years ago.

Ads will be inserted into e-mails thus the ad revenue. As with most other things google is counting that less than 1% of the accounts will ever use anywhere near the quota

BTW, to have such big account would be a nightmare.. no idea why they think it's cool not to delete a single email LOL! Usefull emails are safer if sored in the PC or printed, useless ones go to the trash.. so really, no idea why to have such big account should be cool LOL.
Of course I have a couple of email accounts that are between 50 and 100 MB big.. way bigger than yahoo and similar free services.. and never really used more than 5 or 6 MB I think... (and it's already a lot!)

Pure marketing.

For those that get a ton of e-mails and acutally fill up the small quotas of hotmail or yahoo and find themselvs having a hard tiem parting with messages out of fear they might need them again.

Trust me there are people out there who are terified of deleting spam because they think they 'might need it' sometime.
