I agree with you, who can say the 550 Maranello was faster than the Diablo and the 575 faster than the Murcielago ? And they have/had good scores (better than the Lambo) and the same for the 360 Modena which is ouperformed by the 911 Turbo from its released date and you have to wait 2 or 3 years to get yours so the numbers are not a problem.

And one also has to factor in the fact that a drive in a Ferrari
is not mearly a drive, it is an experiance and one you will not
soon, if ever, forget. You can't quite say that about the 911
Turbo. I mean, maybe other makes have produced cars that
out performed the Ferraris of their time, but few have matched
that awe inspiring raspy howling and shreaking of a Ferrari
engine, it simply isn't a Ferrari and can't compete with a Ferrari
without it. 8)

Ferrari is all about facts and figures, for example Porsche released the 959 which reached 199mph (oddly enough :roll: ) but then Ferrari released the first 200mph+ car which was an evolution of the 288gto called the F40! Now once again, Lambo release a 500bhp audi...sorry lambo and Ferrari just release a road going version of their F360 Challenge (F360 Challenge Stradale) which coincidentally almost matches the Gallardo's figures just because of the power to weight ratio. The other thing Ferrari is about is technology...5 valves per cylinder, 1st to have good F1 paddle shift gears, etc..........

I am not talking about any cars in practicular. What I am saying is that first of all HP is overrated by the general public. Second, if all else was equal and the Ferrari was down 50hp thus it doesn't perform as well as rivals then it is bad PR.

If they are down 50hp but still very competitive against their rivals then it matters not.

No doubt that Ferrari will always have that prestige. And I am not saying that Ferrari have inferior cars now, but I am saying in the future if they do, it is not an excuse to make an inferior car.

I highly doubt that Ferrari executives would even dare to consider that as an alternative. "We make a crappy car or a car that is outgunned by Lambos, Zondas, etc, but that's okay because we are Ferrari."
