How can i upgrade my 1996 ford mustang

Thats right i own a 1996 ford mustang. It spins out of control. You can a 180 by just going 40kph. just shift into 2nd gear and keep it steady at 40kph then quickly shift into 1st gear and before poping the clu
turn just a bit. See and feel what happens. But the big problem with the new mustangs is that there not alot of bhp. So i was looking for ways to upgrade my stang so it would drag with a vette aleast.

Dude...what is there, that you CAN'T do to a Mustang? The world is endless with that car. I'd spend a serious amount of time on some of the Mustang boards and read about what people have done, what they like, etc. All the research has been done for you, you just need to read-up and figure out what you want your car to do.

I would avoid going on the Mustang boards and just asking straight out what to do to beat a Corvette. You'll get fifty different opinions and probably a few pissed off people telling you to do homework.

I'm guessing whatever you do, it'll involve a blower.

sounds like you are rough on your transmission. a 96 steed has about 265 bhp, and 3600lbs... 311 ft. lbs if i recall correctly. the heavy, misplaced 4.6L is a good motor, and depending on how much you want to sink into it, there are great catalouges of parts from companies like Edlebrock... im sure you could find out a lot more from a ford dealer, and ask the mechanic some questions for easy local answers... oh, and pics or STFU i love stangs

nthfinity: Thanks for the great advice, but the problem is that here in kuwait the ford doesnt have great mechanics. And the source are very limited so if i wwould want to upgrade my car i am the one who would do all the work.It has 269 hp

I've learned all that there is to learn about a stock Mustang. How it performs top speed the best gear for drifting and the the best gear for a roll on drag. But now i am really bored. I have memorized this car. I want to be suprised.

Everything you do "harms" the engine. Even when bone stock, everytime you drive it, you're putting wear on the motor and the car. So that question is really without an answer. Most OEM motors can go for a very long time, but everyone knows that once you start upping the power, you're going to get additional wear from the additional strain on the car. Modest modifications are likely safe, but they are just that, modest. If you want to be able to run with Vettes (depending on which years you're talking), you're going to need significant modifications. Modifications that probably would NOT be recommended for a high mileage car, unless you re-freshen the engine.

I think the easiest way to get big power from a Mustang is by getting some hotter cams and stuffing a blower on it (along with the typical intake and exhaust work). Will it "harm" the motor? Yes.

If you keep doing the second into first gear while doing 40 kph, not only could you damage the engine, but the tranny as well. Also, why would you ever do that? I never, ever wanted to do that with my two Mustangs.
As far as what you can do to the car- the '96-'98 GT's were the weakest of the Sn-95 cars due to the fact that the engines were equipped with very restrictive heads. It will take more tha bolt on's to even get fairly close to a new or fairly new 'Vette. If you are good with wrenches, you can buy the '99 -up GT PI heads and intake kit. These are the heads that come on the 260 horse current model GT. You can find them listed in Mustang mags for about $1200 fully equipped with all the hardware needed. I think Parkway Ford in Georgia has the complete kit for that price. This will add about 40 more HP and a good bit more torque. When you do install these heads to the engine, your compression will increase to about 10.1 so you would have to check your piston to valve clearance.

my advice ......go buy a fully built big bluck engine with gearbox, ofcoures it will need alots of money to pay, but in both sides you will pay money for ti, so in this way you will have a ready strnog engine and gear which will help you go to the lemit and in case anything happened. you still have your old sit of engine and gear , fix them back and work out the engine and then returen it back ..so the car will not stay months for fixing or upgrading..

thanks Guys, Im think i may with Top Rmp's idea and buy a big block engine and get it over with or i might trade my mustang with a R34 Skyline.
