Just look at what happend to the XJ220 and you will see that
the supercar market doesn't take it kindly when manufacturers
deliver less than their original claims. And with the XJ220 they
at least came extreamly close to their original claims(IMO they
may have actually beaten their original claims), with the Veyron
there not even going to be in the same market.

Koenigseggs might not be reliable and all that, but according to some chick that was a guest on Top Gear, someone got a Koenigsegg up to 242mph during a cannonball/gumball run (i don't recall which). so i'd say its lived up to its specs if that holds true.
*okay, just did a search about a Gumball. and the guy really did hit 240mph.
here's a quote from teh site

Is that really true? I have heard it said several times
with seriousness, but I just can't delieve it.

I have an indirect connection to the gentleman (he owns China Whites, where a friend of mine is a regular VIP), so I will ask through the grapevine and try to get the real deal about this speedo blowing nonsense.

I am guessing that Bugatti (VW) is using the same PR company as Sony and Polyphony for GT4... just "announce but never release" seems to be their way of doing things....

this car is too heavy and even with 1000 hp engine, the acceleration and top speed would be downcreased, and i read on a magazine that the gearbox and engine are passing for a reliability trouble, and the car is making up to 340 of top speed...not so expected as it´s 400 up limit....
