i don't think there is really a set different stages of tuning for engines, i might be wrong but i think it's based on the tuners...for example stage one could be an exhaust and ecu?! and stage 2 has more parts to swap...i might be wrong though...

it all depends on the car and tuners, MercedesChink sort of got it right it starts with simple bolt ons then time consuming bolt ons then turbo's/superchargers, then internals

You are correct - it simply a way for engine tuners to offer a step by step method to get to their "ultimate" package.

Often the pricing and mods in each stage are setup to encourage you to "spend just a little more" to get the next jump.

Another strategy is to have the power gaps for the first few "stages" be small enough to entice you to "spend up" to the next level.

In short - it is simply marketing and packaging - saving you the trouble of expensive "mix and match" trial and error.

APR uses stages, SLP has them Ford Racing has them Kenny Bell, Roush, Saleen, LPE(sort of), Techart, Neuspeed, Banks, Bully Dog, etc...

I like to think of it as a performance package. Its mostly the opitmal way you can tune up your car the way you want for the pricing. You could get a bunch of main parts that make it go faster, but then if you don't get the other smaller parts, then you wouldn't get the best performance out of the car. I think Staging makes sense.
