Cochrane, Alberta - A car dealer wants to help ranchers through the mad cow crisis by accepting cattle as trade-in against new vehicles.
Corry Baum of Cochrane Dodge Chrysler started a two-week campaign Monday that will allow ranchers to trade up to ten head of cattle against the price of a diesel truck, and up to five head on a gasoline truck. Cattle will also be accepted as partial payment on smaller cars.
The farmers "have been sitting on the cattle for close to two years," Baum said. "We're just doing something to try to help them out."
People purchasing vehicles during the promotion will receive a quarter-side of beef, including boxed steak and hamburgers, to help move existing beef stock.
