Riddle that I cannot remember the answer to, Help!

I was asked this riddle earlier today and I know that I’ve heard it before, but for the life of me I can’t seem to remember the answer. It goes like this:

You’re walking down a pathway when you come to two doors. Behind one door is certain death. Behind the other is eternal life and happiness. There are two guards standing in front of the doors. One of these guards always lies and the other always tells the truth. You cannot walk back the way you came, you must go through one of these doors. You may ask only one question to one of the guards before making your decision of which door to go through. What is the question you ask to ensure you choose the correct door (assuming you don’t want to die) to go through?

Any ideas? I know some of you have to of heard this before.

I remember the answer has something to do with asking one of the guards what the other would say about what door to choose, but I can't remember what it is exactly.

I haven't thought it completely out, but I think this is the right one..

There's a man pushing his car, as he pushes his car round the corner and comes to a halt, he realises that he's lost all of his money. How does he know this?

dudes ... answer the first one first

well .. his car was really heavy . .so he turned into a hulk .. so his pants exploded and he pushed his car round the corner ... when hes becomes too tired he looks down while taking deep breaths ... and realizes no pants = no money ...

oh wait .... hulk's pants never tears apart

That's the right answer:
In both cases (whether you're askin the liar or the other)

- If the answer is no, you should chose that door you're asking about
- If the answer is yes, you should chose the other door

If I ask the lying guard what the other guard would say if I asked that guard if he was behind the door to eternal happiness, he would say that the other guard would say no..

imo there can be alot of questions ... like ... ask the guard if hes guarding the door .. since there are only two doors and two ppl guarding each of the doors .... the lieing guard would say no im not .... the non lieing guard will say yea im guarding ... :roll:

anyways ... i got a question ...... i couldnt answer it myself ....
here it goes ...

there are two identical metal bars in a room ... and there is no other metallic object or anything ... there are just two bars with you .... how would you tell which one of them is the magnet ??? :roll:

you got it right a long time ago. Its asking the question "wich door will this other guard tell me is the correct one?"

the one that lies will say that the other guard will tell you to go through the door at the right and the one that says the truth will tell you that the one that lies will tell you to go to the one at the right also cuz he never lies so you just go through the one at the left.

either he says yes or no u win.
