Speed always needs to be adjusted to the circumstances. Looking ahead and anticipating on the fact a car might turn into the road you're driving on at the moment is part of that. Crossing your fingers and feeling lucky if you make it across obviously is not. You always have to be able to come to a halt within the distance you see is clear and take circumstances that can suddenly shorten that distance (such as upcoming intersections) into account.
I know I run the risk of sounding like an old nag, but it's a fact. It's the only way in which you can enjoy driving your car and have a good chance of telling others about it afterwards. There's plenty of fun in being a good, fast but safe road driver as well.

I completely agree with you. I'm all for having some fun and maybe taking a turn a bit too fast or something late at night, but going 180 km/h down city streets in an underpowered, underbraked POS is just dumb. If he flattened someone's family member or something I'm sure some of the big balls "he's not doing any harm" guys might see straight. There should be a region where common sense stops you from doing something--you don't have to do everything retarded to know it's wrong. (We'd all be dead from sticking our heads out car windows or jumping off of roofs by now if this was the case.)
