i just got done watching a show about un-manned cars. and it got me thinking, what cars out there have the radar for brake assit, lane stay assit etc. the cars that are using tech. that the car will take over for you if worst comes to worst?

well Mercedes,BMW,Honda/Acura, and Lexus all have some sort of radar cruise control, brake assistand lane change control and Lexus has that BS parallel parking stuff aswell.

Feel sorry for the used car market for these hypertech cars... as the cost of repairing will be just as high when they are out of warranty... helping to tank the resale value

More reason to lease the new gen of hypertech cars vs buy.

yeah they nearly totalled a new RL with the CMBS/PAX system because of the cost for all the parts the Radar in the front grill alone is I think $2K plus the PAX wheels and Tires were $4k just for the front 2 the Turning headlights are $750 each plus the HID components, then all the other parts that go into that car it was insane but they paid to fix it all. Oh and the entire Dash had to be replaced because the airbag had gone off and the airbag breaks through the dash onthe passenger sidebecause having a separate flap/door is unapealing to the eyes.

well i was just wondering what cars, the ones that have them, really work well, and i know the cost to fix that stuff if it break is stupidly high. but also what about the realibility of these systems?

the hand stitched dash on the 760Li is like that.


So far we haven't seen any issues with the radar system. Maybe a couple of isolated problems, but nothing widespread.

PDC sensors can be a pain in the ass though. It doesn't take much of a hit to upset them. Just a well places rock at 80mph is enough to piss one off sometimes.

the brakes intervene to a point, but ultimately it's still up to the driver to react and stop the car.

yeah I saw one over the winter that came in because the radar was too dirty and malfunctioned that way but that was it.
Ours will slow you down and beep then if you still ignore it it will start jerking the seatbelt violently then it will slam on the brakes down to 5mph after that it is up to you.

I dont want a car that will drive for me.. But I can see a purpose for those useless asshats who drive around doing their makeup and shaving.
