Default Network Monitor Software ?

some little shit is consuming all the bandwidth at work during work hours, probably downloading porn or something...and it has become a problem, I need to find who it is or who they are, can anyone recommend me a network monitor tool or network traffic control that'll help me hunt them down?

I had a good one I used to log the amount of bandwidth i used in a particular time period (day, week, month, infinite)

It also showed your current download speed.

Too bad I forgot the name of it though.

Do a good search for "Network monitor" or better yet, go to download.com and do a similar search and you will find A LOT of different freeware. Download the one with the best ratings.

yeah I've looked around, but there are so many programs and I've downloaded like 10 and none of them work... most of these are to monitor the usage of your own computer and the computers it communicates with... and i need to monitor the whole network, dutchmaster try to remember the name! thanks dudes.

Are you the admin of this network? I'd install a well configured proxy.

The problem is that whoever is on a download spree, might be passing through switches you do not monitor. You'd really need to be in his line of fire so to speak (with your conventional network monitoring tools). e-eye and some other tools can do wonders however.

You could set snmp traps on switches to show statistics as well. But it really depends on what your 'powers' on this particular network are.

I should of read your post completely. I thought you just needed to monitor your own bandwidth. ops:

Is there a network security group in your office?

You won't exactly be able to install an app on your computer to hunt down the bandwidth hogger.

You will need to talk to the network administrators and work with them.

If you are an admin, take a look at this program called Eracent. It's a monitoring software that monitors installed software and licenses as well as what websites are being visited.

edit: Just read the previous response...

Installing a mandatory proxy is the best(only?) way to limit and monitor your users internet usage.
