But you're right. The Genesis Coupe is interesting, but its purpose seems muddled. It's not the Tiburon/Coupé replacement because Europe's getting that, but the Genesis just doesn't seem like it has an outright sporting intent. Maybe it's supposed to be a cutprice G37 / 3-Series alternative? That seems more likely.

This is better looking than the 2005+ Mustang, new Challenger, new Camaro and certainly the Nissan 350 Pig Car:

Proof positive that taste is in short supply!

Yes, and I've driven the '05+ Mustang and the new Challenger.

The Mustang is a cluster fuck. J Mays' attempt at retro failed. Everything past the doors is hopeless. The car looks heavy and the high belt line / low greehouse gives it a mobile bunker look. I'll keep my 2004 Mach 1.

The Challenger is better, but suffers from the high cowl necessary because of the use of the 300C / Charger platform. Compare it to the more svelte lines of the original.

The new Camaro is pretty good, but suffers froma little too much retro-itis. The problem here (and for the Mustang and Challenger)is that cars of the '60s and '70s were not burdened with crash regulations, bumper standards, etc. Compare a '71 Challenger to the new one and a '68 Mustang to the '05. The new cars look ponderous, the originals reletively lithe.

The Genesis is a clean very attractive design unburdened by trying to evoke 40 year old memories. If it had any other company's name, you'd like it much better.

It's not bad, but what you call clean, I call bland. This car lacks any desirability, badge aside.

Hmmm. It is fresh, I'll give you that. but the weird quarter window treatment and the wavy wrinkle in the sheetmetal seems almost childish. There's still a very amateurish feel to the design, as if they weren't sure what they were designing. And, in real life, it looks like a Tiburon/Coupe facelift rather than a new car. I bet that was actually in the design briefing.

I was hoping that they'd take the plunge and make something novel. Like their HCD-8 concept, which I really liked.

Like a cut cost Korean 928.
