See, BMW right now is full of contridictions. First they want everything to be named 2 doors = Even #s, 4 doors = Odd #'s.

Then they can't make the M1 because that name has heritage. Also they can't name another car the M4 because the M3 moniker has too much marketing power/tradition.

And now they want to go back to a Z9? The Z3 was renamed the Z4 to start the process, but now I guess they will revert it back w/ the Z9.
true, the BMW people shoulda thought of this before they started naming shit.

This car shows a lot of promise. I hope they deliver on the predictions. however i don't think that 700 hp will make it into production. The looks of this car sure are original.

Nice concept, the design looks really sweet and the powerplant would be to die for.....however, I wouldn't believe it until I actually see it. Those magazine scoops usually over-hype any little info they can get their grubby hands on.
From a financial standpoint, I don't think BMW would develop a new powerplant when tweaking their recent V-10 is a more sensible solution!

BMW need a high end roadster/coupe to compete against mercs, porsches offerings etc. Doubt the concept pictures will be truly recreated in the flesh. All the sharp lines would fail new pedestrian safety laws and regs in a number of countries.

Also the M5 V10 is the obvious choice, a F1 engine revs over 10k, has little or no torque at low revs and would be almost impossible to drive at cruising speeds. It also would suffer reliability issues and cost a fortune to build. And the only thing a m5 V10 shares with a Williams V10 is the number of cylinders.

Hope they build it before the accountants stop them.

i doubt it will be built. Not with the new M roadster coming out following the E90 M3. Baisically Z4 meets M3GTR. 4 liter V8.

And bullshit the only thing the S85 and P84 engines share is cylinder count! Yeah it has a bigger bore but that's for the torque increase. Yeah it Revs at 8250, but there is no way a road-car can redline at 19,500 and still be expected to make it through warranty. Hell an 8,000 RPM redline for a roadgoing V10 is just unheard of!

They weren't saying it would BE an F1 engine. they were saying it would be F1 BASED. Which more than likely means it will share the S85 V10, should it ever make production.

No way they will use F1 V10, even tweaked. Basic F1 engine has extremely long mileage to rebuild - something around 1000km. OK, let's say they tweak it. Then it'll do 50K km to rebuild and will cost a fortune to produce, run and rebuild. The car with such eninge will have the faith of BMW M1....
Articles speaks about V10 of M5. That's more likely. But, hell, who needs such engine? Even the aforementioned M5's V10 is limited to 400hp in normal conditions, with a "Power" switch to join the other 107 cheerleaders to show off.
95% of customers for this car don't even use it's full 400 hp...
As for styling - I'm afraid we'll never see the classic BMW look again. Not on standard cars that come from the plant...
