Interesting idea, but we will see if the 700BHP V10 will pass regulations and be allowed for the road. I hope they return to their roots with the styling. And many years will pass before this goes into prodcution. I hate waiting :x :x :x

i read- from bmw boss- expecting somethink like 250hp 1000 kg roadster with high-tech stuff, he says to autocar: power way like merc is not that way,
and 700 hp ...

Don't expect this powerplant in the production form...If it is given a green light it'll be powered by a tweaked V10 from the M5.

sounds like a great idea - a roadster with a beastly V10 in the front. I would love BMW for making that (if they can manage to style it right).

BMW M6 CSL has a nice ring to it as well...

wow, very impressive. but i think they would use the v10 from the new "M" cars. that thing should fly if its ever produced. but i doubt thats what it would look like.

It will never happen the way Autocar wrote it.

I'll predict...

5L V10
Aluminum chassis
No fixed roof (possibly a CF targa top)
Carbon parts (drivetrain, etc)
Magnesium-alloy wheels
Plastic and aluminum paneling
2 seats
a boot.

I can never see BMW doing a foldable hard top, simply because they are against the weight it adds to the car. Even if the roof is CF, the mechanicals needed to fold it, and to strengthen the body, will definitely upset the weight balance they keep going on about.

But... like the article said... the M6 might render the whole project useless, since they might not need it anyway.

That's a pretty trick design. As long as they can get the aesthetics right, it could be pretty sweet. V10 is always nice - I think Bimmer will try and milk as many cars as they can w/ all that new technology, knowing how expensive that RnD is. And I'm all for it.

If they stick w/ the current naming designation, it should be still called a Z8 because it is two doors.

See, BMW right now is full of contridictions. First they want everything to be named 2 doors = Even #s, 4 doors = Odd #'s.

Then they can't make the M1 because that name has heritage. Also they can't name another car the M4 because the M3 moniker has too much marketing power/tradition.

And now they want to go back to a Z9? The Z3 was renamed the Z4 to start the process, but now I guess they will revert it back w/ the Z9.
