yup, I think i've read that somewhere in the Autocar Magazine
they have to deal with so many problems, like aerodynamics (not enough downforce at high speed) plus the weight problem
that's why they have to delay the launch date

when (if) it goes on with deliveries this spring, i seriously doubt the warenty will be much if the car isnt maintained in a manner not unlike racecars entirely. mabey something in the contract will say "user agrees not to push the pedal to the floor with the car on" im kidding of course... but, they arent quite doing this one right.
i guess i dont really car that much since ive never been a fan of the potential enzo killer

So if the debate ius now whether 400km/h is too fast, but 300km/h is not too fast - it is a pointless debate - BOTH are insanely unsafe speeds out side of acontrolled speedway, due to entering debris and other traffic - and the damage to the surrounding property should your car careen through the air at 350km/h.

Tyre manufacturers are trying very hard to adress these issues - and probably will provide tyres able to withstand the rigours of such driving.

Instead of being worried about the 250 or so cars on the planet capable of driving at 400km/h plus - becareful they don't focus on the 100,000 or more cars that can easily top 300km/h... breatherlyzers in the steering wheel will be the least of our worries when everyone is governed to 110km/h... LOL
LOL, I think we basically agree but we approach it from different sides.

That's so silly (406km/h)
somebod driving 40 km/h(or less) through a busy(with a lot of a ppl) place/street
could result in a lot of casualties
BTW ppl buying the veyron will take care of their precious baby and drive
crazy on the track

Well I would, you guys agree?

They are killing the idea that it can go 406km/h. Like a lot of supercar owners and McLaren F1 owners they have never reached the topspeed of their cars, one of the reasons why the F1 has the appeal of a great car is because it 'can' go 390km/h. The bosses at VW/Bugatti are killing the idea even if it is for safety issues. They are taking the magic away!

So what's the use of having a car that can, but you don't take it to the limit
Totally pointless, I know I would, no doubt about it

Its a dream for VW...but needs tech. and experience in the supercar business! 8)

The VW wants to be NO 1. in all categories in a relatively short time!

I would tell them to spend that money on design (Golf, Bora, Touareg)!

Bugatti limiting top speed of delayed 16.4 Veyron

By AUTOWEEK

Bugatti is planning to limit the top speed of its delayed 16.4 Veyron to 218 mph, according to sources close to the Volkswagen-owned company. The move follows long-standing rumors suggesting road-going prototypes of the 8.0-liter W16-powered two-seater had experienced stability problems at high speed.

The decision to knock 34 mph off the Bugatti’s top speed is said to be among a series of crucial changes instigated by new chairman Thomas Bscher. Despite reining in the top end, AutoWeek has learned that Bugatti will try for a world record for production cars later this year by pushing the Veyron to the 252-mph maximum originally quoted by former Bugatti boss Karl-Heinz Neumann back in 2000.

218mph top speed, so it's about on par with the Enzo now.
