Bugatti Veyron's restrictions!!!
I am reading a lot of ..... that the Veyron will be restricted to 350km/h or that it wont have 1001hp because of transmission and heat problems. If it it so it will be a big blow to VW/Bugatti and to me too. I love the car and I have defended it always and now it seems that the rumours are true.
At one site the say that the bosses at VW/Bugatti decided to restrict the speed because the customers can't handle all that power and that 406km/h is too much for them. If they can't handle all that power and speed they should buy a MINI!!!! Even if the car is coming out with 1001hp it still has been damaged by the strong rumours and therefore everybody will have his doubts about the car even if it comes out that the car is great.
Bugatti has said that they will build the Veyron with 1001hp etc. and now they can't back it up. I sure do hope it isn't true and that Bugatti revives again and steels the show.

I read the same things and the speed was in a range from 300 to 330 km/h. But the Bugatti's staff members denied everything so ... The last article was on Auto Motor und Sport site 3 days ago. Bugatti assures that the first delivery should be in April. Wait and see (and pry).

From day one, it was meant to be the fastest and most powerful car in the world. but now they may be forced to change that. And now with the new extreme version of the Koenigsegg coming out, it certainly will get crushed. A good project gone bad

It doesn't matter if they do it with 1001 or not... anyway if they go for the first option, the car would have so many electronics taming it that you won't never use the 1001, not even on a straight line 10 km long.. so why not to reduce to something like 600 and make it actually work?

VW staff is obviously caught up in between having to fulfill Piëch's megalomaniac promises and building a car that actually works. If they give it 600 hp they'll lose face. If they give it 1001 hp the engine will annihilate transmissions, tyres and drivers. Right from the start it has been a ridiculous project.
Not to mention the impact it has had on other supercar makers. All of these like Koenigsegg, Daimler/Chrysler, B Engineering, Pagani and to some extent Ferrari and Lamborghini are trying to give their cars as much hp as possible just to make sure they won't be forgotten by the time the Bugatti was going to be released.
Besides, I see a debate on the subject of ultra powerful cars getting closer by the day. Just like what happened in the sixties (the Cobra doing 170 mph on the M1) and more recently with bikes (Hayabusa). I won't hold the Veyron entirely responsible if that happens, because manufacturers have always been in search of ever higher speeds. In recent years though, you can't deny it has been a major factor in the race for the highest top speed. A part of me finds these cars awesome simply because of the hp-figures you can barely get your head round. The other part of me believes it has no real purpose and will only strengthen the anti-supercar environmentalists and the safety obsessed. One big accident with a couple of other motorists being killed by some rich half-wit unable to control such a car will do a lot of damage, I think.

IMO it's already done... they should have kept the project secret untill they were sure it could have worked.. now they already had to postpone it to much and IMO the damage is done... so maybe better dump it and try to forget is the way to go

i perfectly agree with TT.And i think that is simply mad build a road car with 1001 bhp without having the tecnology to build dedicated trasmission a tyres

When I first heard of the Veyron, it was more of hitting this "mystical" mark of over 1000hp in a "road car". I never really thought that it would be much of a contender to cars with half the power, and half the weight - except maybe in the salt flats where they do the land speed record.
Horsepower and top speed, to me, is overrated. Lambo's Diablo did over 200mph a while ago. And every test that did it, likend it to a land speed record...okay, here's 170........173......175......178.....etc. I'm not up with current top speed numbers on the exotics anymore, but you take a car like the McLaren F1 that will run to 60mph in less than 3 seconds and can out accelerate an F1 car from like 130-170...that's usable power. Sure, it doesn't hurt that the SOB hits 230 either, but gimme everything I need from 0 to about 160. Even for the European guys, I heard the Autobahn is pretty crowded these days. An Elise had like 140hp or something, (190 for the US version coming soon), but it'll show taillights to 99% of everything on the road when you're talking about everyday performance. I don't know what it'll do after say, 100mph, but the Veyron's 1001hp was more of a gimmick to me than anything to take seriously. I did like the styling though, but it was never a serious contender to me.
Although it is unfortunate that they're having all these problems that a 6th grader could have predicted, I think the damage will clearly be there if they have to scrap the project. I think the solution would be to use all the electro gimmicks to limit the amount of horsepower and torque the engine puts out until the ECU can detect that it's just a full out dash for highspeed numbers. Whatever traction control they use will have to be made to baby the car during all acceleration, until higher speeds, when there will be less shock to the drivetrain. Dunno what they'll do with the overheating...a separate and dedicated tranny cooler with an independant pump to circulate the fluid to a vent that gets outside air?
(my humble opinion of course)

When the production Bugatti EB16/4 Veyron was shown off at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Class Car show, they said the car had already been downgraded to 980hp. They were also having problems with the car being unstable at top speeds, and I believe the tires were also not doing as well as they had hoped.
