Happy D-Day

Happy D-Day everybody 8)

Just to give you all something to think about. Think about who, and what wouldnt be here if D-Day didnt happen. Think about how many cars wouldnt be here. Think about the egineers who wouldnt be here. One day changed the rest of the world for ever.

Does anyone really know how the world would've been without the D-Day? Nobody knows, it could've been a much better world, with much better cars.. Or not

I'm glad D-day took place, but at the same time D-day is nothing to be happy about. *takes off his hat to honour all the courageous men who fought that day, the ones who lived and the ones who died*

As a matter of fact, if Italians and Germans and Japanese were to run the world, we'd probabily have way nicer cars. 8)

Anyway...I can't really say I'm glad D-Day happened, so I won't.

I'm a little confused about why all the advanced western countries hail d-day to be the most important day in WW2...

Don't call me a communist or anything, but if you look into history books, it was the Soviets who actually won WW2 in Europe. They were already to their way to Berlin when the Americans and co. invaded normandy. But, this still isn't a reason for not celebrating it...

Why don't they commemorate the defeat of the Germans in Stalingrad??

What history books are you reading then? The downfall of the Nazis was basically because they fought a war on two fronts.

Here in the west of Europe, D-Day is remembered because it was the first step that lead to the liberation of western Europe. Pretty obvious I think. For the German defeat as a whole, Stalingrad was just as important, but the Soviets didn't liberate western Europe, not were there any western European or American troops involved in the battle of Stalingrad. That explains why there is far less attention over here and in the US for Stalingrad. It goes the other way around too, do you see any Russians commemorating D-day?

You should be happy that those people gave their lives so that you can decide if you want to be happy or sad today. And im sorry the soviets really didnt help as much. It was until the Americans, and Brits started attacking germany from the west which helped the soviets steam in. But some of the gritiest fighting happened on the western front. The soviets tactic of warfare is what makes people think they did so much, When they basically suicide charge millions of men into one line just at one city. Like they did at Stalingrad.

People, I know that D-Day was a major event of the war, and I'm "happy" that it happened, but come on ... Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for the Germans. When the Soviets came into Berlin in May of 1945, the allies were still hundreds of kilometers away...

I admire the allies for their bravery. Risking their lives, landing in Omaha, putting themselves in great danger.

On the other hand, I think Britain and France had no honor. They signed a treaty with Poland, saying that if the germans attack my country, those tow nations would help. I understand that the Luftwaffe was stronger and the German army had better army vechicles etc., but that is no explanation for such behaviour.
