1-serie 5 stars

You may not compare ratings from different categories of cars. But it's idd a bit of shame the new 5 series didn't get a 5 star rating, since all of its main competitors have. But then again EuroNCAP isn't a 100% representative reflection of a car's real safety performance in every day life. And for the record I'm not a BMW fanatic

as far as i know, the measurements are done within certain physical datas like the g acceleration of the head, the pressure due to seatbelts and pressure on the pelvis etc... so they do not change from car to car. yes there is size difference between cars but the parameters that they are measuring for safety, are the same, so you can compare the results with the other ones. i think shame on bmw. the new 5 series is great loser with its hopeless interior and exterior and + SAFETY features. the best car on this segment is still E-class and the new A6

What did you think was gonna happen, with such emphasis placed on performance and lightweight aluminum parts, where did you think the sacrifices in budget would be made?

Yes, at the expense of owers' safety.

At least MB's cars are heavier for a reason, they use good ol steel for a reason...safety!

Do you really care about the words of a company... Who declares cars are safer with speaking seat belt warnings..

No, MB isn't much safer.. Only PreSafe can make a difference...

Aluminum is stronger and lighter than steel. And what about the Mercedes infamous owner accounts of their E-classes just shutting off? I'm sure you can blame that on Mercedes cutting their costs. It goes either way bud.

For the record, aluminium isn't stronger than steel. Of course you can make a stronger structure in aliminium than in steel, but that depends on the geometry, material thinkness and connections between the different parts.

i should learn some chemistry. different metals have different behaviour for collisions. i think the theory might be wrong.

Ashame really...the margin is only 3 points. This car looses a lot in the eyes of potential buyers, who will now prefer to pick between the A6 and E class.
