Default Speed - Project RX-8

Alright this isn't exactly brand new, but I realized it hadn't been posted and it's a sweet car. This is Speed magazine's cover of Mazda's Project RX-8. I really like the car, and was pretty impressed that it lapped faster around Willow Springs than a 350Z despite that it still has less power. Only 4 pages tho...

What do you guys think?

thanx for the scans

never liked the 350Z anyway! but here's a question... does the RX8 deserve the name RX8, making it sort of superior to the legendary RX7????

i think its more of a size thing than superiority. i mean the mx6 is bigger than the mx5, and the 929 is bigger than the 626 which is bigger than the 323. the RX-8 is a "4 door", where the RX-7 is a 2 door coupe

I like it very much...and I hope this will be a benchmark for other tunners to modify RX-8 to its limit...but what do you think how much the HP? My guess is around 350hp at 8500 rpm...

this car was pretty mildly modified. They said the estimated hp is 275, and torque is 200 lb-ft at 5500rpm. Not a huge increase, but still enough to knock approx a half second off stock 0-60 to 5.5sec. I think the torque is the big deal here too... 200lb feet is pretty good.

But yea, I rally can't wait to see some serious tuners getting into this car

I drive a seven myself and no, RX-8 is not superior to the RX-7, they are two types of cars really.

Infact a new RX-7 is due 2006, with a 1.6l rotary producing over 300HP.

The striking fact is that the Rx-7 is going to be a coupe-cab. And the engine turbocharged, obviously.

I can't wait to see what the renesis is capable in a factory tuned turbocharged form. Twin turbo hopefully? The engine bay is plenty big for 2 turbos

^jeez, there's so much room in the engine bay. while i love the car, it seriously is a huge waste of space under the bonnet. not only could you fit two turbos under that baby, (which i'd love to see), but also a couple small bottles of smallshot NOS - and still have plenty of room. I really hope Mazda's rotary revival progresses....
