Default Sport Auto Supertest: MB SLK 55 AMG

NS:

...as with all MBīs - even when they come from the "sport" dep. AMG - the ESP is re-activating on a demanding track like NS way too often mainly due to wheel load chages, the system is acting quite rude and therefore ruins the line and flow of any fast lap- iīd say itīd be at lest 5 sec faster with a completely deactivated ESP...
nevertheless, engine, suspension, ... are definitely good for a quick lap at NS, handling is fool-proof which can be an advantage for NS driving.
only two seconds faster than the old SLK32 is a bit dissapointing though...

HHR:

the nearer the car getīs to the handling limit the worse the neutrality of the suspension will get, understeering is quite an issue, especially with warmer tyres, so improving the lap time isnīt possible any more already after only two laps...
on the "pro" side are standing the brakes, although interaction between brakes and ABS system could be better, and good handling behaviour with no tricky load cycle-changes behaviour...

accl./braking:

to outrun this car in the category longitudinal dynamics is quite a challenge especially in combination with the 7speed auto box and the beautiful engine, 100kmh in only 4.8sec, 200 after 16.8sec, from 200 to 0 in 5.2sec...
the brakes are quite good an get even better when theyīre hot, nevertheless thereīre better systems around in this performance class...

aerodynamics:

the 55AMG is gaining here due to itīs hard-top roof construction, nevertheless, the cw value isnīt very good, lift at front and rear axle quite high due to the spoilerwork which seems to be there only "just for fun and looks" and havenīt seen a wind tunnel from inside...

max.lateral gīs:

with only 1.15gīs the 55AMG is only in the mid field here as well due to the tendency to understeer at the limit due to the suspension setup as the front is very heavy and the rear kinda light in comparison - in general the suspension is very neutral and only when reaching the limit itīs not perfectly balanced...

36m slalom:

as said before, load-cycle changes are kinda rare, the handling is fool-proof easy, only the steering angle is a bit too high, roll is only moderate...

110m evasion test:

...same behaviour as in the 36m test, very precise steering, kinda high steering forces are necessary, handling is very neutral even at higher speeds, here on the smooth street the ESP is working fine and is actually supporting the driver as it actīs very smooth and gentle in the background...

wet handling:

..the P Zero Rosso have a high grip level from the start but are sliding off very sudden when reaching the limit, but the (before de-activated ) ESP is cathing the situation, but as on the NS this is resulting in a undefined handling behaviour...
grip on the front axle is very good but on the other hand this is just supporting the behaviour described above...

Thanks St-Anger, I agree, when MB will learn that a sportscar must have a full deactivated ESP and other shit.... :x

They would be so much more fun to drive

Thanks ST-Anger.
Now I only miss a future test with CLS55. My guess we will see it next issue.
