I found this specific pic that in my opinion reflects the whole "meaning" of Alfa Romeo/Ferrari. Think of it.. Together these 2 marques can rule!
And what great examples these 2 cars are, the 288 GTO and the GTV6!

Nice combo - but thats not a 288 GTO - rather an ordinary 308 (maybe 328 )

But either way, I would take the GTV6 over the 308/328 (especially if it was the South African edition 3l V6 version).

Yes its a regular 308 GTB. You can tell from the long black side mirrors, as well as the ferrari logo on the wheel rim which is extended away from the rim.

I'd take the Ferrari of course... 3L V8

Obviously you are uneducated in the ways of the limited 200 South African edition 198x GTV6 3l... which would out handle and out perform the 308 with on flat tyre and stuck in reverse gear.

I never heard of this legendary South African Edition. What year was it produced. Can it still be spotted on the streets of Cape Town

Yeap you are right guys, its a 308. ops: As for the GTV6, it really kicked ass, producing approx. 190bhp(it had 6 single Dell'Orto :shock: ). And these from a car that was released in 1984...

19984/85 - produced for homologation to race against the unique, limited SA only Ford XR8 5l V8 Sierra and the unique limited edition SA only BMW 745i (with the 3.5l M1 I6).

Also dating from that era are the limited edition and unique I6 M3 E30 (when the rest of the world was still getting the Turbo 4) and the 333i super saloon.

We had a bunch of very nice limited homologation specials for racing.

^^^ Well, for me it was - as the F40 had just come out, and the 348 was already on sale, and had been in an F40 and experienced what was possible.

The 308 is a 15+s 1/4 mile, slow car. It may be a mid-engined Ferrari V8 with the "sounds" and a some of the "feel" - but even watching Magnum PI is a little more exciting than actually being in it ... (just my opinion of course)... hehe

My obsession with stupidly fast cars really started after my ride in the F40 - this was then I realised that there was this level of performance that is literally able to knock your wind out and leave you awestruck.

Together with the noise, the body rattles, the wind noise, the insane wailing of the engine - the whole assault on your senses... this is what Ferrari means to me.

When I see the 360/430 etc which are softened and refined to the point of not being my impression of a Ferrari.

The 308/328 are too tame in my mind - the 348 is almost there - with the 355 being the only alternative to the F40 - which as I say is what Ferrari is for me.

For me, the Z06 delivers a similar feeling (as adjusted for by 17 odd years of memory fade/enhancment) - it's loud, brash, raucus and slightly unrefined - although still a limo ride compared to the F0..

So that's why I would take the GTV6 over the 308... hehe
