Default Sport Auto Supertest: Alpina Roadster S

NS:

especially the Michelin Cup tires are good for the 8:15 lap time at NS, and although the car has 1415kg, and "only" 300hp it is up to way more powerful cars on the list. the engineīs overall performance is outstanding, the overworked gearbox is fitting perfectly to it...
the Roadster S is 17(!!!) sec faster than the alreadey really good Z4 3.0

HHR:

again the Roadster S is ahead of itīs competitors at HHR, the braking system is one reason, HHR is kinda demanding here but with overworked braking system , Cup tires and very good handling behaviour the Roadster S is 3.7 sec faster than the std. Z4...

braking/acceleration:

reaching 100 within 5sec in this car is a clear sign of good traction, after 17.8 sec 200 another one for a good working combination engine + gearbox.
with a braking power of 11.6m/sē the Roadster S is definitely among the top cars, but it can only deliver such numbers with warm tires, with cold oneīs it can "only" do 10.4m/sē

aerodynamics:

the cw value is not that good, with soft top 265km/h are possible with optional hard-top 270 top speed.
the Z4 is generating 250N lift at the front, the Roadster S 2kg of downforce due to a overworked front spoiler and only 40kg lift at the rear, a bit less than the Z4 also due to new spoilers.

max. lateral gīs:

an outstanding wheel/tires combination trimmed to maximum grip, also very helpful is the stiffer anti-roll bar at front and overworked suspension strut support for hitch angle.

36m slalom:

outstanding 10 points due to enourmous grip level especially due to the Cup tires, nevertheless at the limit the car is a bit difficult to handle, especially at the 36m slalom discipline...
the car shows a tendency to roll to the roll axis - despite the stiffer roll bar - which results in difficult handling behaviour especially when turning in...

110m evasion test:

a smooth hand is required but then the Roadster S is good for a top time...
nevertheless thereīs quite some body roll that could be better, so minor, but Alpina made a very good compromise between comfort and sportiness...

wet handling:

what a surprise on the wet handling track with the Cup tires with its largly positive part, but the average speed is kinda low and at higher speed with more water it definitely would look different...

Thanks St-Anger, enjoyed that good read.

But the roadster S has to watch out for a Brabus SLK 8)

st-anger, a big thanks for posting all of these scans. I love the looks of that Alpina Roadster S. The only thing I dislike is that it has a automatic gearbox, like all alpina's. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I still have to read the article...

In each case: a big thanks!!!
