Electric EVO
This Lancer Evolution IX is not just an ordinary EVO, it is an electric one. The Electric EVO has been build by Mitsubishi to participate in an electric rally at the japanese isle of Shikoku.
Like all EVOs, it is 4WD. This is realised by connecting 4 electronic motors direct to the wheels. These motors deliver 67hp each, what means a total power of 272 hp, almost as much as a regular EVO (280hp). This vehicle is still a prototype, but Mitsubishi has announced that they will build an mass produced vehicle in 2010.

Not only that, but it creates a monstrous amount of torque...something like 268lb-ft per wheel...

We're pretty resistent to change.. but it's inevitable that we won't be driving petrol powered cars forever. Cars using alternate power have been destined to start cropping up for a while - and to be honest this sort of power in a project car at the beginning of this "new industry" is pretty good for us car buffs. I agree they are not going to have the characteristics of a lumpy V8 - but remember it is only the beginning and this Evo seems to be a very impressive start. :fadein:

^No doubt our automotive future will be lean towards alternative power, but that will not stop a petrol heads following the petrol path. Cars are getting more fuel efficient than ever, yet there is still a large group of muscle car followers (or worshipers) that continue to like gas guzzling, frame twisting monsters.
So I will prefer my Evo a turbo charged (lagged) coz that is how it earns its reputation and I am hoping to keep it that way.

I prefer that than the Prius... 
Anyway we will have to wait a little bit...2010. I guess they have to work on the autonomy with 4 motors.

I was thinking and since those are 4 independent motors at each wheel and I'm guessing they are a type of Electromagnet design would it be possible to reverse flow on one side and make the car turn like a Tank? because that would be awesome!

The modern world relies on polymers and other plastics for it's survival....
And guess what - these are all derived from oil.
So - in order to produce all these "fuel efficient"non-oil burning cars, requires huge amounts of plastics and other polymers.. 
So much for using less oil.
What a crock of shit this "alternative energy" movement is.

wow I had no idea plastics were derived from oil. That comes almost as much of a shock as finding out there were two Titanics.
