Rapper 50 Cent was the most brand-dropping rapper of the year, with 17 product mentions in 7 songs, mentioning brands like Bentley, Cristal, Lamborghini, Mercedes and Nike.
It was unclear how many of the product mentions were paid placements -- advertising industry analysts quoted in AdAge said that revealing such a deal would likely undermine both the rapper and the brand's credibility.

No doubt most of the rappers CD's are bought by middle to upper class suburban wiggers..
It would seem that the rap scene has figured out how to make money form the wanna-be poser section of the population

True.
However these days the rappers themselves appear to be the wanna-be posers of the industry....

If you look at the biography of 50 Cent f.e. he has some street credibility. Those guys were dealers, stealing and killing at an early age...fucked up childhoods...pretty hard core
Most guys like Ja Rule though are fake...
Don't care much for rap anyway...

Meh, ok. So 50 pessos is.
But the thing is he is now a millionare and doesnt deal dope in compton anymore but still acts like it.
Hence ANY RAPPER IS A POSER HEHEHEHEHEHE
I mean any rapper that has a video out is probably rich, so they dont deal drugs no more, or do drive-by's. BUt still act like it, hence pose again.

think way back, benzes have always been rapped about.
and really, if you think about, money and material objects, have really always been in rap songs. c'mon, cristal isnt exactly a new rap line, and im not even talking the past 5-7 years. notorious big, tupac, dre, dpg, shit even the sugarhill gang rapped about a lincoln continental and sunroof cadillac and that was what, the 80s? rap stemmed from poverty conditions and people wanting material wealth they could never dream about growing up. im not saying that is what is about or how it started, but how many great rap songs have been about life struggles and wanting to attain that big house, those nice cars they could never dream about.
sure it has become more commericla, but so has rap. rappers own so much of the current youth market that it would be stupid not to sell it. its a trend. and with all the money they are making its hard to get rap out the spotlight = longer life, more records.
/soap box rant off
haha

I agree. Although, it may not have been as blatant with the Tupac/Biggie years, it was still as prevalant. Personally, I have found artists and songs from every era of rap to enjoy. I will agree that all together the music is much different now. I mean just look at how many rap cd's are in the stores that you have never even heard of. Everybody just trying to get rich.
