Anyone with an Audi installed K&N?

The engine in the A8 sounds fantastic, but the car is all to well isolated, so I wanted to install and K&N filter to increase sound.
I have done this many times before but this time I encountered something I have'nt seen before.

Inside the Airfilterbox there is a hole, going downwards. see the pic. What is this for? It was inside the filter so probably it needs a filter to?

I think the hole at the bottom is the air intake for the filter. It is fine open like that. It should in theory provide some coller air.

If you want to check, just follow it. It should just goto the front of the car, or behind a wheels arch.

As for the K&N, I doubt you would hear it inside. You will need a drive by at high revs to see what it really sounds like.

Have you got a larger overview of the engine? The K&N look bloody close to the main block.

I don't know about the Audi, I used to have one in my old car, u do here a little hiss when u step on the gas, and slightly louder roar as the revs goes higher

In which case, the K+N is in the correct place. The bottom of the 'old' air filter no longer serves any purpose. It could be completely removed. However, they are a pain to get back in if you ever wanted to go back to the standard air box.

Therefore, I think it is fine. Everything is in place that should be (throttle body e.t.c).

The only thing I would say is to investigate a heat shield for it. Being that close to the hot engine will mean that it will be sucking hot air in which = loss of power.

Possibly get some cold air ducts in there. Just zip tie some flexy tube to the lower front grill and zip tie the other end facing the K+N. A limited solution compared to the heat shield though.

It cant be the cold ar intake, because the hole was inside the round airfilter that sat on top inside the box. As or heat shields, it is in progress. It comes later in the mail from Germany, hopefully soon. The Air intake from outside is the rectangular wrinkly bit seen in the botom left in the pic

that bottom circular bit is most likely an air silencer of sorts not exactly new to the world of cars pretty much every car has them but they are all different Honda has some before and after the filter. My Thunderbird had them the same it had a pipe that twisted around before the air box then the intake tub had chambers in it just before the Throttle body they are all designed to make the car quiter and no other use.

The diameter of the tube in the filter is 90mm (the filter is probably 130mm) and is apx 35cm long

I've aleady made a cardboard template that will fit inbetween and hinge on the bottom of the old airfilterbox. Preferably I would like a professional made shileld.

I looked at TS racings website today but I could'nt find their telephone number. Guess I have to send them an e-mail tonight. Do you know brembo if any of those you listed is located either near Kristiansand or Bergen?
