yes and no. There are two companies that have defeated the limiter, though it's only availble through one atm. |
What do they use to restrict the Z3s and 330i to 130mph? Is it something within the ECU? Any reason why these cars are limited in the US but aero limited in Europe?

i dunno, cuz this discussion could change the rule on BMW's. Given that the Speedo isn't always representative of the actual speed.

I always thought that US market only limiters/governors was to keep the insurance premiums down  Not 100% sure though

I dont see why they would make the speedo read different than what it actually is going. I would think car mags would bash this about BMW if it were so. Kind of defeats the purpose of a speedo if it is meant for it to display wrong speed.

mags have ripped it a new one... but not much, since where can you responsibly go vmax?

I'm not sure about that one. I know of many US cars that have no limiter. Sports cars for example moe often than not do not have a limiter. But many of the slow ass sedans do. I don't understand that one. Could be a safety thing.
As for German cars havingthe 155 limiter, yes they do, but almost any competent tuner can bypass that for a very small fee.

I'm 90% sure that all vehicles manufactured have this 7-10% deviation in speedometer readings. I believe there was a nice article in a Car and Driver about it a couple years ago.

Well then road side radar speed signs must also have it - I have tested my speedo against them numerous times and even at 100mp there is maybe 1mph difference

ask one of your texan neighbors to hook up the radar-trailer, and take it to the highway for one of the high-speed runs.... and return it before morning, and nobody will know the better 8)
besides..... how cool would that be?
