hey everyone,

sorry for the absence, I missed this place. Just finished my first semester of college, so I thought I would start a project! I've always liked the Nissan 240sx, so I bought one! 600 bucks! I GOT RIPPED OFF!! I have a photo album here. just don't laugh.

this is the first time I've tried sharing an album with these guys, so please tell me if it doesn't work.

there isn't a PROPER custom pic up yet because I have no manual for it, and the key is useless(it's bent, and a screwdriver works better), so thats why I put it in this section. Not to mention THIS THING HAS PROBLEMS! so it's going to be one big modification. :roll:
any suggestions are welcome, since I'm new to nissans.

It's going to be a LONG project, but It'll be fun. I should learn a lot as well, cause this thing needs mostly everything replaced.

As with everything, its coming down to money, I don't have quite enough money to get the new motor AND have it installed, So i am just buying parts until I have everything. Already have the IC and radiator. Hope you guys like it, and I'll keep updating the album when new stuff arrives, and when I get an actual custom pic. Can't right now since the car is in greenville, I'm in Lubbock.

UPDATE march 16,2006. So I'm back home for spring break. I finally got to get back to work on the 240 and make some progress. Finished removing the rest of the rear interior, in order to get to the sound dampening. underneath some of the dampening in the floorpan was a rust hole. I could use some ideas on how to patch this up. I've still got some of the dampening to go, but it should be done by the end of the week. I've added pics of the rust hole and the rear to the photo album above. I'll add pics of the rear when ALL the sound dampening is gone. untill then, happy St. Patty's day!

its a pretty long list of parts, but next up is the SR20DET. I'm building it for the local Autocross events they have here.

My friend has one of those too, but his hood is all scratched up and bent really bad. How is your's cosmetically?

hail damage everywhere! Except for the rear quarterpanels which are covered with bondo. The paint looks like it was done by a blind man, and some of the door panels don't line up, although one is due to no weatherstripping. It's all fine and good!

I was thinking about that, I'll probably drop some I-6 in there when the SR blows up, or I get sick of it. maybe a 2JZ ?

Save your money for the I6 now. there is no sense in stting up the car without the engine you're going to use for it.

I think the 2JZ may be a bit large for that engine bay, especially how the intake system is set up.

Getting hold of one of those engines wll be easier if you import the whole front end of a skyline if you go with the RB26DETT. that way you get the engine and harness and all you'll need is a control module to flash.

EDIT:

After looking at the pics, i'd say you got a decent deal. Not the best, but you didn't get ass raped.

The intake is easy to clean out. Go to the GM dealer and get a can of top end cleaner. All you do is put a piece of vacuum hose in the can and lead the other end in front of the throttle plate. Start the car and rev it to about 3K and let the vacuum suck the fluid ouof the can. Try to keep the engine revs up until the can is almost gone, then let the engine choke out. Start it again and rev engine a few times then take it for a spin around the block. It's going to smoke worse than the Springfield Tire Fire, but that's normal and it will dissipate after a few minutes of driving.

The leak around the fuel tank is probaly a bad vent hose, or the seal around the fuel pump or level sending unit could be bad. I THINK you have to drop the tank regardless, but you might be able to access the pump from up top if you peel back the carpet in the hatch area. not sure.

and the 666 on the plate is just a precursor o how wicked that car will be when it's done

Take your time and enjoy the work. It might actually more fun than driving the car

^^I bought two bottles of engine degreaser, and spent a few hours scooping shit out of the intake, then repeated the process. oohhh what fun!

The TPS doesn't work, so the engine can't really rev to 3K

. Got a working one at a junkyard, but I need to fix the gas tank first. I don't want to spend anymore money on this engine until I get the SR motor, then I'm going to tear the KA24 down and rebuild it (learning expierience).

The leak in the tank came from a BIG dent in the hatch underneath the spare tire. Not sure how it got there, but it cracked the top of the tank along with the . the hoses looked old with some small cracks, but the seal around the fuel pump seems ok, doesn't leak. now, the tank is sitting at home in the driveway(looking oh so trailer trash) until I get back home to hammer out the dent. At this point a new tank wouldn't fit until I fix it.

as far as the engine goes, I'm going to stick with the SR20 for now since it makes plenty of power for what I need, and I don't want to go too powerful too quickly, I want to focus on the suspension. I also found a guy that has a warehouse with some Silvia front clips, so I would just need to go get one. In a couple years though, maybe an I6. That'd be fun to have an RB26 under the hood.

Since I'm in Lubbock now, I'm just going to get some money together and buy the misc. things I'll need for the motor. (downpipe, fuel pump, etc.)
