Project about cars for school {need help}

So this is the deal. I need to do a project about cars for English class. Its very importnat since its 40% of my final grade!

So i was thinking about mercedez or ferrari since they have a long history but my teacher said no. She siad it needs to do a research project. We must do somthing like the affect of ferrari on X or How mercedez amg affects X. So i am not to sure what we can do.
However last night i saw some top gear on tv and i saw that episode when they are talking about what F1 gave us (flappy paddle gearboxs) then they spoke about what rally gave us. So i was thinking that maybe we could do the affect of rally cars on road cars. I mean they gave us 4wd diffs, they gave us the wrx sti and the evo and much more.

what do you think?whtever it is, there must be lots of info on it.

Yeah, I would just talk about the effect of motorsports on the general car industry, the innovations and developments of motorsports being implemented in road cars etc.

BTW, how is this English?

Well, not specifically. But focus on a few key innovations in recent times, like F1-style shifting (the paddles, buttons, whatever) and how road cars are now starting to apply such technology into their road cars. You might want to discuss how car maufacturers use innovations from their own experience in motorsport in their road cars (like Ferrari using F1 technology in the road cars).

If you think of more, you could try and base the project around themes, like "performance", "safety" etc.

I would go with safety. Much of the improvements in road car safety is as a result of motorsport's (FIA's) efforts towards this cause.

how about this, in particular

Audi and Porsche created the first duel clutch gearboxes, for use with paddle shift in 1985; audi with the S1 Quattro Evolution, and Porsche with the 956/962 Group C cars. Audi call it DSG, and Porsche call it PDK.

basically, it was a case of doing things mechanically when they didn't have the computers to do it much more presicely like today.

Audi have introduced DSG as a transmission option already; and Porsche is going to be releasing the PDK quite soon, as an option on 997 Turbo, and carrera models.

keep in mind, this is entiely different then SMG (sequential manuel gearbox) that opperate w/out a clutch except for 1st and reverse.
