Default Why don't we hear much about the Porsche GT2?

anybody know why we dont hear much about it? i mean if the GT3 is that good one would reason the GT2 would be a lot more fun since its supposed to be a model up and has more power right? I know there's a short review done by Tiff, but are there any others, magazines included?

The GT2 is often in vid and in mags, but I always read the true driver focused Porsche, the most fun all in all is the GT3 (or GT3 RS).. the GT2 has more power ok, but more power doesn't always mean more fun

the gt3 is bare, so much more lighter... any figures on hp/lb for both?! Yeah, yeah, i'm getting it...

gt3 rs .......280 kW (381 bhp) @ 7400|385 Nm @ 5,000 for 1,360 kg <- No turbo = no lag
gt2 ...........355 kW (483 bhp) @ 5,700|620 Nm @ 3,500–4,500 for 1,420 kg <- Twin-turbo = twin-lag

Anyway for the diff in price i bet you could tune it up, add a turbo or two, a ALS and you`d still be lighter but with no lag (and no back seats)

i agree that more power doesnt equal more fun, but isnt the gt2 supposed to be the top to the line as far as the current 911 range is concerned? and if it is, shouldnt it be the rest one in terms or performance? according to supercars.net the 2003 GT3 is 7.98 lbs/hp and the 2004 GT2 is 6.57lbs/hp. the gt2 is 133 lbs heavier..but that might just be the turbos and its associated plumbing. In any case, it still doesnt explain y we dont see tests of it....i mean if u were an automotive journalist, wouldnt you want to test out porsche's most expensive, most powerful, fastest offering aside from the CGT?

As far as I know (evo rules ), the GT2 has yes more power and it's fast as hell, but harder to drive fast at its limit, less forgiving, less usable so...

And after reading so many nice words about it I'm sure most of evo's readers would buy a GT3 RS over a GT2

For one thing the GT2 is quite old compared to the GT3 in publishing terms (been around for a good 2 or 3 years now). Remember when it was launched it was lauded as having one of the highest skidpad results ever etc. Also, it's a bit of a flawed diamond in some people's minds--plenty more expensive than the Turbo, marginally faster, not as well-rounded, and not as fun as a GT3 (in this case they were normally referring to the older model) due to a lack of linear power delivery.

also not alot of people buy a GT2 but rather a TT because the GT2 is a True drivers car and u have to be able to handle it. the GT2 is not an easy car to drive but looks sweeet, and when u see the GT2 badge on the street u know the deal

evo doesn't like the GT2 as much because if you read the pluses and minuses in the knowledge section it says: "More old Turbo S than GT2." It's not as loved as the GT3 because it isn't the raw drivers car that the GT3 and the old GT2 are.

Actually, somewhere I remember evo saying that it wasn't fast enough (comparably). I think what evo wanted was basically a GT3 with 462hp and not a rear drive Turbo with 462hp. (NOTE: I keep saying evo, because everyone knows, evo is the best magazine )

I would guess that it isn't faster. The Stradale is lighter and more powerful, so at least in a straight line the GT3 RS is outgunned. As far as handling goes, the Ferrari is more edgy than the GT3, but the Stradale and the GT3 RS haven't been compared as of yet (I live in Canada, so I'm at least a month or so behind as far as evo goes) so it's tough to compare.

The GT2 is more powerful compared to the GT3, but according to Walter Rohrl and Evo isn't that funny to drive. The track is wider compared to the GT3 and it isn't so nimble and intiamte to drive. But it's a very very fast car, and also difficoult to drive to the limit while maybe the GT3 is more exploitable and handles better.

The Stradale according to Evo is faster the the GT3 in straight line, but it's more edgy and difficult on the limit.Maybe more grippy but when you go ober the limits, the it's proper driver stuff.

The basic point of these posts is to say this...
The GT3 is a fluffy fluffster who fluffs its fluffy arse around those fluffy turns at those fluffy racetracks.

The GT2 is a turbo'ed attempt at a fluffster that has too much power and too much weight to really handle like a true fluffy fluffster. So instead of fluffing its fluffy arse around those fluffy turns at those fluffy racetracks, it spins its tyres.

The 996 GT2 is not the beast the 993 GT2 was. It's more powerful but his weight/power ratio is higher, it's more confortable and more turbo oriented.
Moreover, the increase of power led the engineers to make safe-oriented adjustments. . so less fun than the GT3 wich is purer in his spirit.
