Seems like the GTR will finally be able to hold its own against a 911 Turbo afterall. Just keep the weight down and it should be alright. But I doubt the GTR will be able to keep up with the 911 Turbo on longer straights and higher speeds.

THat the problem with "aiming for a current car, with a future build".

The 2009 GT-R is going be equal to the 2006 911 Turbo?

but the 2006 turbo is a really nice car. You know what ford did, right? They aimed for a Ferrari 360 in terms of everything (actually aimed to kill it around a track and on the road) and it ended up being so much better, that it was significantly better then the 430 as well... this could be what is also happening at Nissan? I wouldn't doubt it... too bad thier sence of style is about as good as the Guvenator's sence of humor

Sounds and looks like a really interesting and serious car!

Now lets hope the ricers stay away from it...

But the price that the GTR will be selling for, aiming for a 2 year older 911 Turbo is no shame. As long as they keep developing the car like the 911 and not leave it lingering like the NSX without much development during its lifetime.

that car sounds sick!! i highly doubt that nissan is going to leave much room for improvement. however the last skyline eninge was "the" engine for tuner to get ungodly speed and hp. so i am sure the power, even though it will be high, will have room for imporvements. but to run with a 911 turbo is a good starting point and if that isn't a full production car yet, i would say that the production car will eat a 911. if its only a few tenth (or so) behind now.
