^Well, the House of Windsor is actually German. Queen Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, a German royal line, and Kings Edward VII and George V ruled as such. Victoria herself was descended from the Hanover line. It was only changed to Windsor when the British went to war with the Germans and George V thought it inappropriate to associate the Family with Germany. Of course, Germany was ruled by his cousin, so he wasn't fooling anyone.
The English often say that they've never had an English head of state since 1066. With a few exceptions, it's pretty much true.
