Default What? They still make the G-Wagon?

MY2009. It refuses to die.

Another significant change to the 2009 G-Class is in terms of power for the G500. Thanks to Mercedes' M 273 M55 KE V8, output is boosted to 285 kW (388 PS), while torque is increased to 530 Nm. Power for the G55 AMG increases as well, with total output now weighing in at 373 kW (507 PS).

Any idea how many they produce/ sell per year? This should be a uber niche market.

This is another car, that I have NEVER understood the appeal of. Sure it looks good in movies.. But practically speaking, if you wanted to buy a Benz SUV - wouldn't a ML63 be a better, more comfortable car, at half the price? *Shrugs*

But not as good offroad, and not as heavily engineered. I'd love a G55, in fact, I hate SUVs but weirdly I would quite like one of those.

Are you suggesting the G55 is designed as an off-road car? Seriously?

Yes, it might have more power than is necessary but that is what it was designed for. if you re routed the side exit exhausts and added some disengagable anti roll bars then it would work as well as any other Gelandewagen.

man i love the G-truck, may it outlive us all

btw the G55 AMG has had that power for about 2 years now, it started with the N/A version, then the 476hp version in 2004 with the supercharger, then it reveived 500hp in 2006

I once had a Matchbox scale version of the original G-class in German police livery. It was the coolest thing ever alongside my Matchbox Ferraris.

It's not the most practical car, and probably not a wise choice to buy with your own money, but hey, it's cool, and a cult icon.

I had a red one, I think it was an airport rescue vehicle. Unfortunately it got torched in some kind of pile up.

Not sure how many of these luxury versions they make in a year but I know they build lesser spec ones for various army and United Nations vehicles, there are no plans to stop production, although I guess they will only carry on building the high spec version whilst there is a market. I think it is a cool vehicle, as pitfield said - 'I hate SUVs but weirdly I would quite like one of those'

I see these things all the time around here they are very popular, especially the AMG models.
