Building a track

Just out of curiosity,

Lets say I am granted or I bought 300-350 acres of land, and I am willing to build a private road track that is around 2.0-3.0 km.

Roughly, how much would it cost overall? There would probably be a fence/sound barrier circiling the track and possibly seating for about 500 people.

I'm judging that it will be around $10,000,000.

What do you guys think? This was in my mind for quite a while.

More then that...

Pavement isn't cheap, and specially if this is to make a raodcourse where it has to be perfect. You will be looking at much more then 10 million to build something like that.

If you did the work yourself with subcontractors - and did not try to make the track meet FIA regs - but more along the lines of the Nordschleife - you could probably get away with about a million bucks.

I have already done this cost excercise with an acquaintance in Texas.

Building 2 miles of road is not that expensive - it is all the added crap that will allow you to host events that adds to the cost.

Then there is the uber-liability you inherit with the facility if you open it to the public - or fail to secure it correctly.

IMHO something like the 'Ring or Bathurst would actually be a lot more fun (and a lot more dangerous to life and property ) than a billiard table smooth F1 spec track.

BTW - the annual maintenance would also be a killer

There is a new track opening up in Canada, it is called Calabogie Motorsport or something like that and they have a website perhaps you can contact them and they will tell you or perhaps not. The guy that built the track in the U.S. that Porsche is using spent around $65 million but that track has amazing facilities and they hold real races there.

Here's a selection of corners I think would combine to make a great track. With straights, of course. I'll start witht he nearest to my hometown.

1. The Sepang F1 Circuit Double Straight (Back and HOme, connected by a left hand hairpin).
2. Parabolica, MOnza.
3. Eau Rouge, Spa Franchorhcamps
4. Corkscrew, Laguna Seca.
5. Bridge, Priory, Luftfields from Silverstone, England (all one sequence, i thnk).
6. That mad home straight to left kink to right hairpin sequence in the Grand Valley Speedway from GT2 and GT3.
7. 130R, Suzuka.
8. Estoril, Magny Cours.
9. The Tunnel, MOnaco.
10. The entire Nordschleife!
11. Hammerhead, Top Gear TEst Track.

This would be great. Can anyone else think of any other good corners I missed out? I dont remember alot, since I only really follow F1 of all the motosports in the world. The track should be long, ideally like the old Nurburgring, but also have the facility to shorten it to make it suitable for any number of different types of races.

Heck, cant someone here, good in graphic design, etc, be able to draw out a map or soemthing with the corners i listed above, or create something else? Hmm. Then when Jabba makes more than Bill Gates, he can build an actual Jabbas World, with rentable supercars, amusement rides, and nurburgring style... M5 Taxis.

Of course, All members of JW would be welcome to get one free ride (ride? I mean DRIVE) in a supercar of their choice. hehe. Live the dream.

Parabolica's a bitch in vidoe games. Especially in the F1 games. You can never get the braking to be consistent. Hehe. Well, me anyway.

That's why its included. Bloody hard corner. Any ideas on other track segments of note?

I hope calabogie track opens up since there has been a petition going on by the people who live around that area... They say they want piece and quite and bla bla... Its almost 30-40 minutes away from me and I would love to have such a nice track close by since I'm not much of a 1/4 mile fan.

Someone, somwhere, make a track out of the corners i listed. Please! I'm dying to find out what someone can interpret it as. Hehe.

Again, I ask, anyoen have any more ideas on what other corners would make a good track? hmm. Perhaps i should take a stab at it myself.

I read somewhere that 1km of a 2 lane road costs around 5kk euros. This may not be accurate though.

check out the matrix movie.. the part where the motorcyles and cadillacs was the highway that was customed built for the movie. i forgot how much that stretch of track cost, but i think it is somewhere on there site.
