Just because they're not pro WRC cars doesn't mean they don't take safety seriously. Even for amateur SCCA rallying, and hillclimbing they have to have a licensed, and approved rollcage, as well as fire suppression, and other safety features. The safety of the race cars is probably the most important thing that is checked on SCCA cars, and I'm sure that FIA, or NASA, or whoever the sanctioning body is, is just as serious about it. I'm not saying that they weren't injured, just that they are safe(as safe as any race car that is) even though they aren't WRC, or Pro.

alrite its been made official. I DONT HAVE THE BALLS TO GO RALLYING. seriously u need to have alot of screws loose in ur head to risk this. and those people that watch these rallying on the sides of the stages are really really ballsy. still a great sport would love to try it (eh maybe one day when i leave NYC..........) any one else cringe when they saw that what looked like an old volvo hit the tree on its passanger side? ouch great vid

Yeah even if it was a pro car/SCCA or whatever there was so much deformation of the cockpit area .

Man, that volvo did hit that tree really hard! If there was a co-pilot I would not be surprised if that was a fatal crash. I wonder what happened to the guy in the very last clip... it was a "cliffhanger" (get it? lol). hopefully he didnt plunge off the ledge after drilling that cliff wall.

Naw, I watched that rally and Tommi didn't fall off the ledge, the car just flipped.

After re-reading my post, I want to point something out. I was referring to the modern race/rally cars. Some of the old footage is extremely scary stuff, especially the one mentioned at 2:35, but there's another that hits a tree with the roof of the car, clearly caving it in, right at 1:20, that 's just as scary, if not more. The modern state of safety technology is so far advanced even from a few years ago, that you rarely hear of drivers being killed, and usually when they are, it's something freak that happens.

What movie was it where the guy said "I can remember when racing was dangerous and sex was safe."

But by far the scariest moment is when the guy off camera sticks his finger in the other guy's ear.:shocked!: Shhuuudddder, scary stuff.
