Hate Crimes On Jews in Toronto....

This Week my Parents house was attacked my some stupid teenagers spray painting nazi symbols on the house doors, cars, and egging everything.

i can't belive that even in a country like canada there are still stupid people doing stupid things.

my dad is jewish and was born in germany after the war... and was stunned at what happend, he said that not even in germany there was stupid people like this after the war, he said if they wanted to piss off the jew they would do it to his face not behind his back in the cover of night.

yeah, i was gonna say something about this yesterday...stupid people with their stupid lives...my buddy that lives in the same neighbourhood got vandalized too and his dad just got a new 745 bimmer and it got spray painted on too...sigh...this is just what Toronto needs to publicize how safe Toronto is, as we try to get more tourist to come after the SARS out break...

Could not agree more! It's mainly teens who think they are cool. I know people that are racist against almost everyone ( except their own background) , and no one can tell them differently. In many of these cases - their parents are to blame.

It's amazing how little people remember the horrors of the past. I am Jewish, and I've found that since "The Passion" came out, even in Ann Arbor, MI, where I go to school (it is an extremely liberal, friendly town), that people are already showing signs of antisemitic sentiment. The thing I find most fascinating is the fact that nobody is really stepping up to the plate to stop it. I'm not religious at all, but the feeble attempts of the Rabbinical society around here aren't doing much good. The affect of the movie is much broader and deep-reaching than anything they seem to be able to do.

I hope things settle down and that people begin to remember what has happened and start thinking about ways to stop it.

I really don't think that a movie can influence somebody that much that it will drive them to perform hate crimes the passion doesn't have anything to do with it.

I beg to differ...I'm not saying that the anti-semitic sentiments are caused only by the movie, they've been on the rise in the first place...as have anti-Islamic ones...the issue is that the movie has a broad-reaching impact that is pretty much uncontrollable. There aren't any disclaimers or anything of the sort if you go to see it (except for the fact that it is quite violent hehe). What is happening is that people who already hold anti-semitic feelings are going to the movie and having their beliefs affirmed, even if there aren't any blatantly anti-semitic moments. Those who go into the movie looking to find the message are going to find it, and believe that it is a justification and proof of their beliefs. People who go into the movie not looking for it won't.

The problem doesn't lie with the movie, it lies with the culture that surrounds us. I'm not trying to say that the movie should be censored or anything like that, I'm a full and wholehearted believer in freedom of expression and speech, but education needs to be a bit more thorough.. I don't think that as a culture we are prepared for it.

I don't think that anyone should be discriminated against, we are all created equal and that's the way things should be. Utopian, I know...but hopefully...someday.
