Default Baby Pagani!!

Pagani are planning to build a car, which will rival with the Lamborghini Gallardo. It will probably be fitted with a superchaerged V8 from the Sl55. The car will cost approximately 130000 quid and wll appear in 2006.

Don't place your deposit on a Gallardo just yet. For most of us, a Lamborghini in the garage is a distant dream, but anyone fortunate enough to be in the market for a compact supercar could soon be spoilt for choice.

Auto Express can reveal Pagani is planning to produce a baby Zonda, which will use Mercedes power in a bid to teach its Italian rival a thing or two about exotic performance. Talks are underway with the German firm's in-house tuner AMG about donating the supercharged V8 from the SL55 to the newcomer. The Zonda already uses a 7.3-litre version of AMG's V12 powerplant, tuned to produce 555bhp. In the new model, the smaller V8 is likely to provide at least 490bhp and a sub-4.5-second 0-60mph time.

As our exclusive images in this week's issue show, the car will be a more compact evolution of the Zonda's shape, with a far more muscular stance than the Lamborghini. What's more, it will lose some of the larger Pagani's outrageous styling, giving a cleaner look. It will still be easily recognisable, with the familiar shape of the glass area and bulging wheelarches complementing the drooping rear end and sharp nose. The design will be finished by two raised, centrally mounted tailpipes, which will no doubt emit a suitably sporty exhaust note.

The project is still in its early stages, so don't expect to see the baby Pagani on the road until 2006. With the full-size Zonda costing £350,000, the newcomer will make the exclusive marque far more accessible, with prices likely to start at around £130,000.

Oh dear lord...now this sector is overcrowded...100,000 euro cars are no longer pretigious...

and it would also be another Italian car with German heart...What now? Ferrari with Opel engine?

has anybody of you seen this car in real steal....i have seen only one and it was the c112s but the older model and it was just great...i think that the zonda is one of the greatest supercars and i think that it will be a lot faster from that gallardo...anyway i think that there is a reason why pagani uses mercedes motors but i amnot sure..i think that one of his coorperates who died had something to do with merc and that is why...because also the zonda has a merc engine....

A baby Zonda? THat would certainly make that particular sector of the market..... intteresting. The Gallardo, the 360 replacement, a baby zonda. What next? I wonder if Aston Martin will make something. There's the AMV8, but that's priced to take on the 911.

Let's hope it doesnt turn into another SUV-esque scenario of one-upmanship, aye? Nex thing you know, Volvo will make a compact supercar as well, with their vaunted 'practicality' theme in mind. ("It even has space for your kids!")

The horror.

As UK members will know, Evo is owned by Dennis Publishing that also owns the magazine Auto Express. The magazines are sisters and share information on their websites, and occaisionallly in their magazines.

There is one picture of the baby Pagani in this weeks edition of Auto Express, but (as i have written above, in a previous reply) it is just a photoshopped image of a Gallardo, with a few Pagani styling cues, such as a pointy nose, raise back end (a la Zonda).

I don't think we need to worry about that. Everybody wants a piece of the SUV market because every American and every third European is dreaming of a big, ugly, bad handling SUV. And too many of them can afford them. Not that many people can afford a sportscar, so that segment is crowded enough as it is.

German engines in italian cars is fine. The problem is when the Germans gets involved in the rest of the car. I don't think that will happen in Pagani.

That's nice, Pagani is a small manufacturer but his products have very good reputation in both qualities and performances but, due to the small number of produced cars and the fact that no big manufacturer is behind him (Mercedes provide the engine but i don't think that they put money in .. ) their price is high.
I wait for more info on this "small" car, will it have a carbon fiber chassis ... because, then the price would increase i think.

the zonda ass is really cool, but i think it cant reach the porsche carrera gt one!check the laraki fulgura also and tell me thats not worth it...it is nice to see pagani go for a smaller car just like porsche and ferrari have, just like lambo and aston martin did...competition always raises the quality of the product...

this wave of photoshoped new cars is going more often...i think we shouldnt trust the pictures showing new cars nowadays...
