Hello everyone,

I've been trying to solve the heel and toe problem for quite a long time..
I always want to heel toe on the street without speeding excessively, but the problem is.. I can't really heel and toe when I m doing moderate braking.. because the brake pedal is too high for me to blip the accelerator... I can do heel and toe properly if I m braking hard....

How do you do heel and toe?

Besides, I always examine the way Best Motoring drivers to see how they do heel and toe.. I found out that... their heel of their right foot actually never touch the ground.. their heels are on the air... unlike most of us... where our heel always stay on the ground when braking or accelerating.. what's your point of view on this?

i'm a big guy so i've actually got two methods. if the car is big i can actually do it the BM way. If the car is small like my corolla, i have to do it rocking my feet left and right. ie my feet is on the brake and accelerator at the same time for the whole duration of heel toe. the best way to explain this is place your foot against a pole. lean your foot to the left which is the brake and when you need to blip the throttle, lean your foot to the right. this method is hard if the pedals are far apart so usually i would have one of those extensions on the accelarator to help out. if i did it the BM way my foot would have to be in the air. this is the method i used when i had the S15. i had a lot of room to manouver my legs

but really its just practice. it took about 6hrs driving time to get used to it for me

There are indeed cars where you can't really do it if you don't brake hard pushing the brake pedal down enough.. not with heel and toe nor with left and right part of the foot...

But most of the time, in a way or the other you can do it. In my BMW in "normal" driving mode, I use the left and right medod.. or maybe a diagonal.. not really using the toe, but almost... luckily the pedals are very very well placed.

But as stracing said, with practice maybe you could find a way to place the foot...

What car is it BTW?

If i'm cruising them i'll put my foot on the floor but if i'm and "Schumacher mode" or going a bit faster i think you will probably don't put your foot on the floor.
But when i'm going fast i concentrate more on the road than on my feet.

My car is just a Mazda Protege

I think I can do the left and right method properly....my point is, I don't understand how BM drivers can do the REAL Heel and Toe in any cars... probably they're going really fast... and press the brake really hard.. ??

In my 328is, I usually just roll it over a bit as I am on the brakes. All it takes is just one blips.

In my Corolla GTS, I definitely did the complete heel to toe since the pedals are a bit further away.

i guess you just need to learn how to control your brakes as well. at first i would lightly step on the brakes and then try to blip the throttle but at the same time i press the brakes a littel harder and it would just throw me forward. but after a while it all went fine

Its definitely not an easy technique to master first time, but I have tried the method of rolling the side of the foot onto the accelerator without much success and I have been told to try moving the heel of the right foot and push on the accelerator "diagonally" in effect

Andy, what kinda car do you drive? If it is the Aston, I don't think you need to do heel to toe with an auto

rolling your feet isn't the best method to start with. i only use that technique because i've got a small car and i can't move my legs around as much as i would like

yeah, the pedals in the stang are supposed to be set up for heel-toe, but the gas pedal is much farther back than the brake, so it would be hard under moderate braking. I tried it in my accord a few times, but its difficult. Havent tried in the mustang yet.

It definatly easier in some cars than others. but i havn't found any that i can't do it in. Brake with the ball of my foot, blip with the right side of my shoe or heel usually. Heel isn't touching the ground i don' think. Definatly helped that i learn't in a BMW, with pedals where you want them. but can now do it in most cars. Volvo 740, transit van, rover metro to name a few!
