FBI wants to legally wiretap X-Box live.

These are the first steps in the legal dance to be allowed to scan your harddrive remotely... first its Voice over IP... then they will want Data of IP - then the raw packets... and finally - just have a Windows/Linux module that dials the feds every 2 hours with your harddrive file list... :roll:

This isn't new news. When they redesigned the telephone lines in the US the gov't required a back door be designed in to listen. They also require most encryption to have back door keys. I'm not in favor or such actions.. yet another for your protection type thing. What you guys should realize though is that this falls under the same auspice of needing a warrent to observe. Doesn't make me sleep well at nite because of the underlying security risks. But, its more of a concern to me from the who else can watch me..

Frankly the prospect of tapping a "Video Game Console" network sounds ludicrous! Yet the actions of the Bush Administration have led me to believe that they are fools for wanting to believe in their own hype, 'justified' in doing whatever it is they want because they perceivably own the moral high ground in whatever disagreements may arise with their methods.

What next? You have to buy webcams and install them around your house, so that you can be viewed by govt officials to make sure you are not indulging in terrorist acts etc? This big brother scenario frightens me to an extent, because we really might be turning into those protectionist/'climate-controlled' societies that writers fear will materialise in the books they have published and written.

Even though I live here in Malaysia, half a world away from the US and Europe, what if some techno-savvy FBI agent/CIA spook decides to perceive me, or any of my countrymen of being terrorists, and promptly raid our harddrives and erase our personal files? My PC has already been hacked once, but luckily it was just a friend playing a joke on me.

We know that whatever it is the US does, it will have global repercussions. Some here are more interested in the US Presidential elections rather than our own parlimentary elections, because what happens there will affect our economic policy, or foreign policy. and how we engage in diplomacy around the world.

Here's what i think is the main problem with the Bush Administration : They think it is a RIGHT to have this sort of influence and control over the rest of the world, not a PRIVILEGE. Because of that, they have been arrogant, short-sighted, and self-righteous to the point that they cannot be wrong in whatever it is they want to do, and to the point that a viedo game console network can be viewed as a breeding ground of terrorism. And also to the point that they feel they do not need to repsect International Law, because they have come to believe THEY are the LAW.

Sure, terrorists could use X-Box LIve to communicate, etc, through the chat rooms, or various techniques of espoionage that haven been used by the CIA, or MI6 themselves. Heck, think about it, you could disguise a message in a blog for God's sake. So does that mean blogging websites will be closed in on and constantly monitord? Who knows? Big Brother is slowly going to become a reality, and his name is George W. Bush.

I am not going to respond to all of the above - but suffice it to say, at least in the USA the government has to first ask for and get legal ratification from multiple components of the elected and appointed components of the democratic process...

In many other countries - the firts time you would know your X-Box live chat was being monitored is the moment you were shot for treason...

Think about you entire post above - you make it sound as if the US Presidency is "for life".... if the people here are not satisfied with the government of the people - they will simply elect a new one for the people and start again.

In the mean time - if you incite/instigate or commit acts of violence against the US - you will be carpet bombed.. Yeah Babeee...
