guys, if you really think about the principles behind the operation of the DC motor, you'll realize that an electric motor is capable of an infinite amount of horsepower, unlike the gas engine. all it takes is a different setup of the magnets and a different style of winding the wire coils depending on what you want.

Not true. Look at the Magnetos on a train engine If you've got the power to spin it, it can produce anything you need it too

yes, it's possible waht Tbird said. I don't know which kind of DC motor they're using. Only by changing the electric current flow to the stator will make each engine rotate CW o CCW 8)
Z, I don't think that car uses magnets (natural or artificial), they must be electromagnets. DC motors that have magnets weigh a lot more, would cost a fortune to build those motors, and not be as powerfull as coiled stators.
Imagine... you want to drag, you simple change your rotor, have more poles (shit, don't remember the name in english), more coil winding, and instant Watts

after that, you simply change the rotor to a more efficient and not so energy consuming arrengment

EDIT: BTW, anyone has more info on this car? I surely like to read the tech specs of the car. At last I'll put in practice my engineering degree 8)

have you ever realized how much torque is actually at the wheels on alot of cars? think about it you don't divide 300 by 4 on an EVO to get the torque for example on an Automatic you have torque multiplication at the Torque converter then in the gearing in the tranny then in the transfer case there is usually another ratio to multiply it by then at the differential you have to do it again like say with a 4.10:1 ratio in the rear end so lets take an Audi A6 4.2 it starts with 310 then maybe a 2:1 in the Torque converter so now at 620 then multiply it by 3:1 in first (I know very high gearing) 1860 then 4.10:1 in the differential you are looking at about 8000 lb/ft of torque at the wheels divided by 2 so roughly 2000 at the wheels that mind blowing if you think about it but then realize how much weight it is moving and how fast. now obviously an Audi doesn't have that kind of gearing but a 4X4 does those insane Off Roaders with over 10,000 at each wheel because of all the gearing in it. So in sumation 210 lb/ft of torque is not that insane of a number.

granted the roughly 2000 lbs of torque aren't adjusted numbers and I'm not sure how they rate the 210 from the electric motors
