Rap is still commercialised, but those like Kanye West/Common/Talib Kweli still make sense. Others like Chingy/Ja Rule/Fiddy etc... are too hung up on image.

West has a real idea, as does Pharrell - though the Billionaire Boys Club is a bit of a wierd and far-out ambition

yeah i agree, throughout all the years of rap i have always found stuff to listent to. even really brand new stuff like chamillionaire, paul wall, happy to see ugk, well half of it, comin back, and probably one of my favorite lyricists, TI (urban legendz was ridiculous if you listen to it) all of those guys are ridiculous if you just listen to what they are saying. look at lil wayne, he might be in the heart of the bling crowd, but the dude has been ghostwriting for people since he was 16. he doesnt even write down any of his raps, the carter II, he just walked into the booth and did it in one take (just like jigga, haha)

this was the kinda shit that tupac used to rap about, "party pop". theres so much crap out there thats just party pop. thankfully that just gets swept underneath the carpet. but honestly, how consistently have albums/singles been coming out on a weekly basis that actually are bangin? i got 1000watts in my trunk and loooooooooove it. haha

That may be one of his many faults, but his lyrics are great - maybe he should have stuck with prodducing - his beats were original (Jay-Z - Takeover - a great sample IMO)
